Overview
Pomplee is a dating app for people who want to meet someone close by. It shows who’s around you, lets you like someone — or send a stronger signal, a “Pomp” — and opens a conversation the moment two people like each other.
I designed it for a client, whose details are confidential, as the only designer, covering the whole experience from signing up to staying in control of your profile and privacy.
Problem
The app needed to take someone from sign-up to their first conversation quickly, while giving them control over who they see and who can reach them.
Key decisions
- Sign up with a phone number. Onboarding starts with a mobile number and a six-digit verification code, then a short profile setup: name, birthday and gender, followed by who you’re interested in, your city and an age-range slider.
- Three ways to browse nearby people. A single profile card with skip, star and like buttons; a grid toggle that shows six profiles at once with the same actions on each; and a Map Search view that places people on a map.
- A signature “Pomp”. The star button sits at the centre of the action row and the tab bar, has its own Super Pomp screen, and a match is announced as “It’s a Pomp” with Send Message and Keep Playing.
- Safety within reach. Every profile ends with Report User, which opens a short list of reasons. Settings and My Profile give access to blocked users, a Hide me switch and Delete my account.
Design
The experience feels warm and energetic. Big photos put people first, and every choice — pass, like or Pomp — is a single tap on a round, colour-coded button: a red cross to pass, a green check to like, a red heart to favourite. Moving between discovering people, chatting and your own profile works the same way everywhere, and the tools to report or block someone are always close by.
The visual language is a bold red-orange gradient with white cards, rounded pill buttons and a clean sans-serif, with a playful heart in the Pomplee wordmark.

Outcome
A complete set of screens for the app, from sign-up to chat, with the settings and safety screens a dating app needs around them.
What I’d do next
Test the card, grid and map views with people to see which they rely on, and review sensitive profile fields such as ethnicity for privacy and inclusivity. I’d also check the contrast of white text on the lighter orange areas.
