Overview
BeFit is an iOS and Android fitness app I designed for a client. The client’s company details are confidential.
I was the only designer and took the app from research to final UI over three to four weeks. It combines personalized workouts, activity tracking and social motivation. BeFit launched.
Problem
The client wanted an approachable, all-in-one app that offers customized workout plans, tracks progress and encourages community motivation.
The audience included fitness enthusiasts, beginners, busy professionals who need efficient routines, and older adults looking for low-impact exercise and straightforward navigation.
Research
I interviewed between six and ten people — a mix of beginners and regulars — and analysed competing fitness apps.
People preferred clean interfaces, visible progress and daily reminders, flexible workout plans, and social challenges and achievements. That shaped the design around simplicity, personalization and accountability.
Key decisions
- Start from a goal. Onboarding asks for a goal, such as weight loss or muscle gain, and uses it to shape a personalized workout plan.
- Resume, don’t restart. My Training opens with the workout in progress and the active plans, so the next session is one tap away.
- Motivation without clutter. Challenges, points and badges, inviting friends and sharing milestones support the core workout flow instead of crowding it.
Design
The journey runs from onboarding to goal selection, a personalized plan, daily activity tracking, and then progress review and community.
The app is organised around four tabs: Find Workout for browsing workouts, My Training for the active plans and sessions, Progress for statistics and history, and Profile for personal details, achievements and settings.
The interface is minimal, with rounded edges, soft colours, simple icons and clear hierarchy. Bold headings and sans-serif body text keep it readable. Key screens include a one-tap Quick Start, an analytics screen for calories, duration and heart rate, and a notification centre for reminders and tips.
Outcome
I built high-fidelity prototypes in Adobe XD and collected feedback on them. The feedback confirmed the direction, so the design went ahead without major changes, and BeFit launched.
What I’d do next
Voice-guided workouts, wearable integration such as Apple Watch and Fitbit, adaptive workout suggestions, and nutrition and meal planning.
